Nancy Davis, Publicity
It is with a very heavy heart that I report the passing of current member Dee Siehl. Dee has been a member with the IWLN since 2010. She always wore her wonderful smile when she came to play and was so much fun to be paired with. Dee was always very helpful within the league especially with our Charity Invitationals. She also loved to participate in Outside Invitationals throughout the Valley and always enjoyed hitching a ride in the “golfmobile.” To Dee’s family, we extend our sincere condolences.
“But, it’s a dry heat!” We are experiencing a very active monsoon season this year. On September 8 we had the “Storm of the Century” with Chandler receiving 5.63 inches of rain in a few hours; water everywhere with nowhere to go which made our IWLN play date on Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 a.m. a challenge for our players. They were restricted to cart path only; all of the extra water created soaking squishy wet shoes, the temperature was sultry (are we in Georgia?) and there were mosquitoes and ants, conditions normally foreign to us Sun Lakers! Ladies who played and braved the elements were: Ann Gavin, Marcia Gaudioso, Jeanine Krause, Patty Lombardo, Susan Meer, Kathy Thomas and guest Marlys McFarland. After golf the following attended our last Poolside Café Breakfast for this season: Susie Cook, Nancy Davis, Rachel Enloe, Ann Gavin, Marcia Gaudioso, BJ Krause, Jeanine Krause, Patty Lombardo, Norma Marsh, Shirley Miller, Dottie Schnormeier, Linda Spink, Kathy Thomas, and guest Marlys McFarland.
October Calendar:
The Ironwood course will reopen following closure for overseeding and our October play dates are October 15, 22 and 29. Our shotgun will be off the back nine and we will be restricted to cart path only because of overseeding the course. Our first Board meeting of the season is October 29 at 9:30 a.m. in the Ironwood Clubhouse. Hopefully, all Board members will be able to attend.
Member News:
We all extend a very big welcome to Kathy Thomas who recently joined our Lady Niners. We especially applaud these new members who join us in the middle of our sultry summer.
Activities Open House:
Ladies who meet the age requirement to reside in IronOaks, interested in playing golf and are curious about joining a league, please come see us at the IronOaks Activities Open House. It will be held on Saturday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Oakwood Ballroom. In addition to our regular membership we offer a social membership for former and current members who can only occasionally play but are interested in attending our social events. Our Ironwood Lady Niners will be wearing our red shirts and our smiles. You will know us immediately by the infectious enthusiasm we have for our game and our league. We would love to meet you, tell you about our nine-hole golf league and hopefully get you to join us.
If you cannot make the Activities Open House and are interested in trying our league please contact Susan Schaeffer at 480-802-9852.
