Stewart Thompson, Chairman, Missions and Outreach Ministry
The Missions and Outreach Ministry of Sun Lakes United Church of Christ has organized a collection to benefit Maggie’s Place and Justa Center throughout Lent. During the first three weeks, we will collect for Maggie’s Place, and the second three weeks we will collect for Justa Center. This draws us toward the resurrection and restoration of our world.
Maggie’s Place
Maggie’s Place welcomes pregnant and parenting women and their children into a safe and loving community, providing life-changing programs and ongoing services to help them to become self-sufficient. Maggie’s Place provides safe housing and nurturing for homeless pregnant women, empowering them to thrive throughout their lifetime. Maggie’s Place was founded in 2000 and has seven homes in the Phoenix area. We will be collecting women’s toiletries, infants’ needs, and children’s birthday toys for Maggie’s Place.
Justa Center
Justa Center is a day resource center designed to help homeless adults 55+ find appropriate resources required for daily living. At the center, clients have access to dignity-providing services, such as showers, laundry, mail service, and Internet access. The center is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. A morning snack and lunch are served daily. The center serves over 1,000 people each year. We will be collecting personal care items, paper goods, and cooling station supplies for Justa Center.
We invite the Sun Lakes community to join our Lenten Giving Project. For more information, please contact our church office on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at 480-895-6317.
