The idea of “men made of metal” has a strong, resilient feel to it, like someone who can withstand anything. First Baptist Church Sun Lakes’ (FBCSL) wildly popular series is back, beginning in January. We are inviting men in Sun Lakes to discover why this program is so successful. Our first meeting is on Jan. 11, 2025, at 8 a.m. and will feature Sam Rotman, graduate of Juilliard School of Music. He has an amazing story, so don’t miss our first installment in Made of Metal 2025.
The title “Made of Metal” is a perfect description of the men who participate in this group: the cold, unfeeling nature of metal and the warmth and fragility of flesh coming together to share philosophical and/or emotional stories. Are you made of metal? How do you see yourself? Are you torn between your human side and the “machine” that society has turned you into?
What is the solution? You could call Ironman—sorry, no, he’s a fictional character. How about turning to the Man of Steel? Oops, fictional! Instead, why not join Made of Metal as they celebrate individuals with unwavering determination, the kind of strength that doesn’t bend or break under pressure—similar to how metal doesn’t bend easily.
The guest speakers aren’t cyborgs, superheroes, or villains, but everyday people like you. However, like you, they have struggled to break free from the chains of rigid masculinity and forge their own paths.
If you are interested in joining the popular Made of Metal, please check out the website at www.fbcsl.org for more information. Space is limited, so go online and sign up or get your name on the roster by calling the church at 480-895-1088.
