New Season, New Director, New Music … Let’s Go

Yvonne Orlich

A new Sun Lakes Chorale season is beginning. On Sept. 9 we began rehearsals again after a five-month hiatus. But now it’s time to buckle down and start learning new music for the Dec. 12 concert. We are ready and anxious to dive in.

This fall’s return is special (well, every return in the fall is special), because we are starting a new season with a new director. Rob Swanson will be stepping as the new Sun Lakes Choral Musical Director, and we couldn’t be more excited. Rob had already provided our members with links to the numbers we will be performing, and the members will be getting their music packets. We will be learning (or relearning in some cases) 11 songs for the Holiday Concert. With that many numbers, we will have to practice in earnest. That’s a lot to learn at any age, but we are a senior citizens group, and learning new things isn’t always easy. I say that light-heartedly, but sincerely. It sure isn’t as easy at 65 or 75 as it was at 25 or 35. But we will persevere, and by concert night on Dec. 12, we will confidently take our places in front of 300 to 400 eager audience members and put our best foot and our best voices forward to present what we hope will be another stellar program.

We’ll share more information here in the Splash and SunBird News about ticket sales and concert times in the next issue. We’ll also have info available at the three upcoming Open Houses in Sun Lakes in October. Those dates are Cottonwood Palo Verde on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon, Sun Lakes Country Club on Oct. 12 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and IronOaks on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. My apologies for submitting the wrong dates in previous issues over the summer.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church for a program of wonderful seasonal and holiday music. See you soon.
