Jim Wegman, Publicity
August golf got off to a hot start with the temperatures above 110 degrees again, and we are fielding fewer players each week.
The director of golf operations has asked that we remind our members of the rules regarding the use of handicap flags. Carts with handicap flags may go up to, but not beyond, 10 yards (30 feet) from the green edge. If the cart path is closer to the green, please park on the path. You must have a current letter on file from your doctor before requesting the use of a handicap flag.
Course Care. It takes about eight seconds to fill a fairway divot with sand and about the same amount of time to repair a pitch mark on the green. We all need to help.

Clubs. Just a reminder about clubs. Rule 4.1(b) Maximum of 14 clubs allowed. You must not start a round with more than 14 clubs or have more than 14 clubs in use during a round. Check your bags for extra clubs. The penalty is two strokes for each of two holes played with more than 14 clubs.
And speaking of clubs, when the shot called for a 9-iron back in the late 1800s or early 1900s, you might ask your caddy to hand you your Niblick.
Sadly, I must report on the passing of a member’s wife. Our deepest condolences are offered to Richard Katz and his family on the passing of his wife Charlotte.
