The PVMGA’s 2023-24 season drew to a close with a Beat the Pros/Supers event on Oct. 12 with the Cottonwood Men’s Association, played at Cottonwood. Combined players from each club teamed up to compete against the team of Jon Griglak, Joey Jones, Scott Anderson, and Jim Miller. In the end, there were 19 teams that were able to best a very respectable score of 56.2 strokes put up by the Pro/Super team.
Other events for September included a Stableford scoring game on Sept. 14. Len Rosati and John Kane led the Blue Flight with 35 points each, followed by John Mitchell and Steve Schneck tied for second place with 34 points each. The White Flight winner was Phil Hollevoet with 39 points, Barry Walcker in second place with 38 points, and Chuck Carothers was in third place with 37 points.
On Sept. 21 the final Ace of Aces Qualifier was played. Flight 1 low gross winners were Jim Dubow (67) and Bob Brabant (69). Low net winners were Chip Bortnem (64) and Keith Edwards (65). Flight 2 low gross winners were Peter Gorman, Chris Schneck, and John Kane with scores of 76. Low net winner was Gene Wenger (60), with John Mitchell and Ken Verbeck tied for second with 63. Flight 3 low gross winner was Barry Walcker (78), and second place was Jeff French (79). There was a three-way tie for low net with Gary Zahnow, John Crawford, and Chuck Carothers, each with a net score of 57. Three new players, Jeff French, Ken Verbeck, and Barry Walcker, qualified for the two-round Ace of Aces Final Tournament in November.
Sept. 28 was a four-man scramble, and there were four teams that tied for first place with a score of 44: the team of Dave Mastalski, Peter Gorman, Arve Moser, and Joe Lombardo; the team of Marco Sowa, Mike Dalsanders, Jim Cain, and Don Reese; the team of Brad Wilson, Gregg Lorimor, Bob Torres, and Gary Zahnow; and the team of Chuck Guillaume, Lee Hood, Kevin Janssen, and Jim Davis.
Oct. 5 play was a Pick Your Partner 1 Best Ball Net game. Flight 1 first place winners were John Kane and Ken Verbeck, second place winners were Bob Kittle and Daryl Ramseyer, and third place winners were Chip Bortnem and Tom Rainville. Flight 2 first place winners were Don Reese and Jim Cain, second place was the team of Bob Torres and Bill Greer, and finishing in third place were Jeff French and Lauren Kingry.
