Janet Baron, Publicity Chairman
The prevailing weather conditions in Arizona contributed to the wretched heat and humidity we experienced during the month of August. Some of our fearless ladies found their way to Palo Verde golf course every Tuesday morning to indulge in their passion for the game. They were determined to ignore the existing circumstances as best they could and complete their 18 holes; to my knowledge no one dropped out.
08/05. The T’s and F’s tournament was won by Carolyn Tagatz; in 2nd place was Dolly Schaedeland Donna Purcell; Carol Ruff tied for 3rd. The 2nd flight winners were Pat Krieling and Rita Raymond; they tied for 1st. Helen Saxton placed 3rd.
08/12. Our best nine holes came into play. The 1st flight winners were Jan Stuckey Ann Hammond and Carolyn Tagatz. The 2nd flight winners were Jan Kempf, Rira Raymond and Carol Elliott.
08/13. Bear Creek Golf Club was the sight of our third summer league; we played the Cub Course. What a wonderful gathering it was! The pros, bag boys and servers went all out for our league. The taco luncheon was the best ever, everyone agreed. Thank you Carol Ruff for your time coordinating and arranging the day for us. Oh, the cookies just topped off our tasty lunch! One complaint, the directions to each hole were lacking; I spoke to Brian (pro), he will bring our complaint to the Board. We decided we would go back again next summer.
08/26. The odd holes played proved to be extremely challenging. The first flight winner was Dolly Schaedel, Donna Purcell and Shirley Marshall tied for 2nd. The second flight winners were 1st Jan Kempf; Wanda Johnson, Rita Raymond, Ginger Henry and Wanda Wiggins all tied for third.
We are now discussing plans for our charity cancer tournament, Golf for Life, to be held in November. The Cottonwood ladies will be joining us this year along with our men’s league and their guests. We have been extremely successful in the past and are determined to make this fundraiser the best ever.
Talk with you in October; have fun!
