Jim Meagher
When I deliver food and donations to Matthew’s Crossing, I am welcomed by their friendly staff and volunteers. They assist me in unloading the donations that our Sun Lakes community donated at one of our locations. They are grateful for what you donate without regard to the quantity of food or the amount of money. They weigh and check the food that comes through the door, regardless of whether it is on skids of packaged food or in small plastic bags that contain tea bags. Being able to acquire bulk quantities of packaged food is made possible by your financial donations. Your individual food donations allow them to provide a variety of items that otherwise would not be available in the boxes of food given to the people served.
You are invited to visit them and experience the important and essential services provided to people who are unable to avoid food shortages for their families without Matthew’s Crossing. The reality is that one in four children will go to bed hungry tonight, and one in seven seniors is not sure where their next meal will come from. Information and assistance to schedule a visit is listed below.
Reach Out Sun Lakes collects food and financial donations from the following sites. Their July 31 year-to-date donation totals are as follows: Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club (meets at Risen Savior Lutheran Church): 485 pounds of food and $601 cash. Collection for the Bridge Club is on the second Tuesday of each month in the south parking lot between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The Democratic Club of Sun Lakes: 168 pounds of food and $1,255 cash. The Democratic Club pickup is before their meeting each month in the east parking lot at Sun Lakes Country Club. Unity Church: 143 pounds of food and $570 cash. The Unity Church community members will begin to contribute in the fall. Sun Lakes Country Club (Phase 1): 68 pounds of food and $160 cash. Donations may be left at Sun Lakes Country Club during their normal working hours at any time in a donation box at the front desk. In total, our team has collected $1,586 and 841 pounds of food for Matthew’s Crossing.
