“A Hand Up 4 Vets,” Jewish War Veterans Copper Post 619 fundraiser to benefit homeless veterans, will be held online from Oct. 27 through Nov. 10.
The auction committee has been hard at work securing fabulous donations.
“We wanted to create a fundraiser that would be COVID-safe for all of our retired members, the majority of whom are not as young as I am,” joked 90-year-old Auction Committee Chair and JWV Post 619 Senior Vice Commander Owen Fabert. “We decided an online auction would be a perfect way for our community to help homeless veterans for now.”
We need you—not only to bid, but equally important, to begin letting all your friends, family, organizations, dentist, and the person in front of you at the supermarket know about this exciting two-week event.
Here’s Why:
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, two of every five homeless are found in places not suitable for human habitation. Yes, you read that correctly … found in places not suitable for human habitation, which is a national disgrace. Homeless veterans require an array of services to get them back on their feet as productive, contributing citizens. While there are service providers, they are underfunded and need support.
That’s where Jewish War Veterans Post 619 comes in. This all-volunteer organization, whose sole mission is to support hospitalized, homeless, and at-risk veterans, and donates every penny to 501(c)(3) veterans’ organizations. Funds from this auction will be used specifically to help homeless veterans in the metro Phoenix area. A few of the organizations to receive these benefits are Veterans First LTD, preventing homelessness and stabilizing the lives of women veterans; MANA House, providing transitional living for homeless veterans; AZ Veterans Stand Down Alliance, providing resources for thousands of homeless and at-risk vets at annual events; and US Vets-Phoenix, providing housing and services for more than 1200 homeless veterans annually.
