What are the Verdeen cousins up to now? Sweet Gum, Texas’, most unpredictable but lovable characters are cooking up loads of laughs in the soon-to-open Rex’s Exes theater production, directed by Sandy Bocynesky. The First Lady of Texas is supposed to visit Sweet Gum to choose the Yellow Rose Award recipient for which Jimmy Wyvette is a finalist. Meanwhile, cousin Gaynelle is seeing the ghost of her dearly departed husband everywhere and understandably has a case of the heebie-jeebies. Gaynelle is dreading her half-century mark birthday and is snarling at anyone foolish enough to bring it up. Add to this mix a disgruntled jilted bride; a “loose trollop” chasing around with the randy Uncle Aubrey; a bounty hunter, complete with a shotgun; the newly released jailbird Aunt LaMerle; and a New Age cosmic hypnotist/psychic, and you have a recipe for both disaster and hilarious hijinks.
