Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Partner with Kids Need to Read School Program
The Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions were proud to partner with the nationwide Kids Need to Read program in handing out free age-appropriate books to students of the San Marcos Elementary School in Chandler. Kids Need to Read has provided over $1 million in books to over 130,000 children since its inception as a small group project.
“Getting books into the hands of our nation’s vulnerable children is so important that 95% of our annual budget goes to our three main programs, Sharing Our Library, From Our Shelves to Yours, and The Page Coach,” stated Executive Director Jessica Payne. “Our success depends totally on the authors, publishers, volunteers, and donors who support Kids Need to Read’s work. Because of their support, I get one of the best careers in the world—encouraging literacy by giving books to children.”
Members Attend International Guide Dog Day
The Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club (SLBLC) was honored to be invited by Guide Dogs of the Desert Executive Director Robert Maher to attend International Guide Dog Day at the Foundation for Blind Children in Phoenix. The SLBLC has been a longtime supporter of Guide Dogs of the Desert and their work. Vice President Brian Curry was asked to speak about the Lions’ commitment to sight and vision issues, and President Gary Aleshire presented them with a donation from our club.
