Fine-tuning all our selections for the recent Spring Concert was sometimes taxing, but all of our members have attended rehearsals regularly and have worked hard to ensure a great performance. We started practices weekly way back in early January, and while it was work, it was also a lot of fun!
This year’s Spring Concert (March 16) featured some great tunes, including a love song, a couple of toe-tapping/finger-snapping numbers like “Sing, Sing, Sing,” and “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” and a few more sedate, peaceful numbers like a Gaelic Chant, “People,” and “In the Heart of the World,” just to name a few.
We have enjoyed having a good-sized group again with 70-plus members. Cris Evans, our director, put together a program of 10 numbers, some featuring wonderful soloists. She always manages to incorporate a good mix of love, laughter, and just plain old fun.
We aren’t all about work, though. On March 6 we held our annual Spring Dinner. This year the party was at the Sun Lakes Country Club. Quite a few of our members were honored with certificates in appreciation of their long-time participation in the Chorale. The SLCC provided a delicious buffet, and the bar was open! Throughout the early evening, we were entertained by some of our “no stage fright” members who sang, read, played the piano, or offered some much-needed comic relief. Who knew we had Minnie Pearl in our midst?! It was a good time and an opportunity for us to socialize outside the rigors of rehearsals.
We are now on summer break until September, and we’ll dig in again to prepare for our Holiday Concert. In September we welcome new singers, so if you enjoy singing and camaraderie, come see us in September and join if you can. Stay tuned here for the dates and times.
