The October meeting of the Sun Lakes Democratic Club will be on Monday, October 12, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club located at 25601 N. Sun Lakes Boulevard. Our speaker will be Representative Eric Meyer, the Arizona House Minority Leader.
Doctor Meyer moved to Arizona when he was seven years old. His early schooling was at Cocopah Elementary and Chaparral High School. He earned a degree in economics at the University of Southern California and his medical degree at the University of Arizona Medical School and post-graduate training in Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University. He practiced medicine in Portland’s Providence Emergency Department and directed that department from 1963 to 1995. He, with his wife (also a physician) and two children, moved back to Arizona in 1996. He was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2006 and is currently ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee.
Dr. Meyer believes strong public schools are the bedrock of Arizona’s future. His background in economics and medicine equips him to understand the growing problems of access to quality, affordable health care and to work for solutions in strengthening Arizona’s economy.
At all club meetings, non-perishable food items are collected for the Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Collections take place in the west parking lot from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is also a collection box at the center entrance of the Sun Lakes Sunset Grill lobby. Thanks to your generosity the total collected during 2014 was 1,880 pounds of food and $170. Through August of 2015, 1,653.5 pounds of food and $356. Thank you, Sun Lakes Democrats!
