Sun Lakes Garden Club News

On Tuesday, Sept. 21, Kim Rosenlof will give a presentation on growing, harvesting, and eating artichokes and their wild cousins cardoons. While most people are only familiar with the closed artichoke buds purchased in a supermarket, when left to flower, artichokes and cardoons will bloom with gorgeous purple florets that bring amazing color to your mid-summer garden. Kim will provide tips on growing artichokes in Phoenix, along with when to harvest for eating, floral design, and seed production. In addition to being a Maricopa County Master Gardener, Kim is also past president of the Tempe Garden Club and current yearbook editor for the Arizona Federation of Garden Clubs.

Members and guests will gather for socializing, refreshments, and welcoming visitors at 9:30 a.m., and the meeting is called to order at 10 a.m. Visitors are welcome to attend and may be from any city with any level of experience. Members meet all year on the third Tuesday of every month.
