Unity Church of Sun Lakes is a New Thought Community. We celebrate Peace, Love, Light, Joy, and Healing. We practice affirmative prayer and positive thinking, and we support one another in living a Spirit-centered life. Rev. Jeanne MacLaughlin is our spiritual leader. Church service has been halted in July and August, but Rev. Jeanne has continued to send us our messages at 10 a.m. over YouTube. Sept. 10 was our first day back from summer vacation. Wahoo! What a joy to see all of you and share our summer adventures!
On Sept.10 our church services were held in the Arts & Crafts Room at 10 a.m. in Sun Lakes 1 Country Club.
The sunny day was what you would call “perfection.” A slight breeze lifted the leaves on the trees, while tall pines gently swayed. The air was filled with the clean scent of mountains and woods. Family members gathered on the bridge over the fast-flowing creek where my sister and her husband Earl used to come to fish. Cups of Earl’s ashes were passed around, and we stood still, remembering all the summer vacations we spent together when the children were little and Grandad was still with us. He could out-fish the rest of ‘em. Earl was a kind, loving, and good-natured man. His daughter Nancy mentioned that he had planned and built the modern-style home they lived in. He was a university professor at Kansas University until he retired. He participated in the building of the Unitarian Church in Lawrence, and he took over working at my sister’s volunteer organization KABC (Kansas Advocates for Better Care) when my sister was no longer able to do it herself.
Teacher, builder, family man, community minded, compassionate, and almost self-sufficient up to 99 years young, he enjoyed his life, and God’s gift of life on earth was not wasted on him. As we have released Earl’s ashes over the bridge, we go our way and I feel and know that, at this moment, all is right with life and the world. Peace and love prevail!
