Summer Heat Is No Match for Tennis Enthusiasts

Barb Jorgensen

The Cottonwood Tennis Club (CTC) has organized play seven days a week.

The CTC stays very busy, even during the summer (though the snowbirds can’t believe anyone plays tennis during the summer!). They start earlier, take more breaks, drink lots of water and Gatorade, and huddle in the shade as much as possible.

On Sunday mornings you can see two or more courts of the ladies who routinely brunch on Cottonwood’s patio afterward. The guys come out even earlier to take a court before the ladies.

Mondays are two separate levels of Ladies Leagues: the Extended Summer Group and the 2.5 Ladies Group. In addition, short court tennis is out in full force (at least for the summer) and is open to the public. Just show up to learn this new, fun game. Paddles and balls are provided.

On Tuesdays there are four different men’s groups out on the courts playing regular tennis, and short court tennis has two courts for round robin play (CTC members only).

Wednesdays are a repeat of Mondays with added courts for Mixed League (men and women). There’s lots of fun, competitive tennis between men and women!

Thursday is a repeat of Tuesday but is our largest men’s group. Short court tennis also has two courts. Thursday evening is also our drop-in tennis and short court tennis, which is open to all homeowners.

Fridays is our Mixed League, a different level than Wednesday’s Mixed League. There are two separate levels of Ladies Leagues and a group of Men’s League.

Saturdays are a men’s group headed by Bob Pivec.

Cottonwood Tennis Club has many activities this summer, including an Introduction to Short Court Tennis and Game Play. This is open to all homeowners on Mondays at 7 and 8:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Cottonwood Tennis Club courts.

And, of course, we hold monthly Happy Hour Fun Fridays. This can take place at the Michigan pool.
