The Sun Lakes special interest group known as Agave recently installed new officers for the coming 2014-2015 year. On May 8 in the Oakwood Ballroom, the guild bid farewell to their current leadership: Co-Presidents Kathie Neffenger and Martha Powell, who have served for the past two years, Vice-President Bonnie Lewis and Co-Secretaries Pat Boles and Joyce Aune. Installed as the new President for next season was Faith Bragg of Maricopa, with Pat Meger serving as Vice President. Taking on the job of Secretary is Nancy Miller and Diane Larson is returning as Treasurer. Agave is very lucky to have such an experienced Board of Directors, especially Mrs. Bragg, who is a past Quilt Show Chairman (2012 and 2013) and Diane Larson, who has already served as Treasurer for the past year. Many heartfelt thanks went to the outgoing 2013-2014 officers for guiding the Agave Quilt Guild to a very successful year. During their tenure, Agave grew to 208 members, had its most profitable Quilt Show ever and hosted world renowned teacher, Rob Appell. Plus, the Community Service Program, headed by Joyce Aune and Shari Davison, completed close to 300 youth backpack-carry bags for the Arizona Department of Child Services. Special thanks to Agave members Ann Crispin, Rosemary Knudsen and Pat Johnson for sewing 30 plus bags each. Way to go Agave!

Looking to the future, the new board already has big plans, including many new and innovative classes and exciting programs under the direction of Marti French, head of education and Program Chair Johnie Scofield.

To help fill the summer hours with quilting, our new President Faith Bragg announced the theme of the 2015 Quilt Show President’s Challenge at the May meeting: holidays and special occasions. To comply with current guidelines, challenge quilts must measure no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches; but can be of any style, from traditional to art to modern. Ladies, start your machines!

The next meeting of the Agave Quilters will be on September 3 in the Oakwood Ballroom at 1:00 pm. Hope to see  you there!
