Anglers Club prepares schedule for upcoming fishing derbies

Welcome to 2019! The Anglers Club is hard at work scheduling fishing derbies for our spring session.

We have three scheduled so far and are looking for more schools to invite out for a fishing derby. If you know of a local school class that would like to come out and enjoy Sun Lakes and have a fishing lesson, please let us know. Also, don’t forget we still have our monthly meetings the first Tuesday of each month in the Mirror Room at 7:00 p.m. We are always looking for new members. Our monthly Flea Market is in the parking lot of Sun Lakes Country Club the third Saturday of each month from September to May. If you have a few stray items hanging around that you would like to rid your home of, please consider donating to us. These funds supply Title 1 schools with a safe and mentoring atmosphere for the students. Our club helps with the cost of transportation here and back to school. Plus, we provide the fishing poles and bait.

If your grandchildren are coming for Easter, remember, we are also making plans for our annual Grandparents Derby the Saturday before Easter. This is for Sun Lakes residents and their grandchildren. We have prizes for the most catches and biggest catch, along with other categories.

We would like to recognize Jim McWhirter for his past participation in our club. Jim was such a friendly and positive man. He wrote the articles for the Splash the last few years. His articles always showed the fun side of our club. He was such an asset to our club. Jim passed away recently and he will be sorely missed, not only by our club, but to everyone who knew him, and especially his dear wife Lois.
