Southern Hospitality, featuring Michael O’Rourke, Ted Peck and Merrie Crawford, was one of Hummel’s previous plays. The upcoming show, Dearly Departed, promises another treat for Sun Lakes audiences.

Sun Lakes Community Theatre has announced that the audition date for the fall play will be April 16 in Room A-9 at 1:30 p.m. in Cottonwood.

The play, Dearly Departed, directed by Howard Hummel, is a comedy by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. It has parts for seven men and eight women. The play is scheduled to run November 8-13.

Dearly Departed features the beleaguered Turpin family and an eccentric community of friends and neighbors. Old grudges are dealt with, town gossip is brought out and the joy of parenting is given a strong examination under the guidance of matriarch Marguerite.

The scripts says the setting for the play is “somewhere below the Mason-Dixon line,” but the Turpin family could be found anywhere in rural America.

“We all know some of the people in this fast-paced comedy,” commented Director Howard Hummel. “These characters are an actor’s dream. Rich in comedy and poignancy, it’s a thoughtful and delightful show.”

Contact Howard Hummel at 541-514-0000 for more information and/or to pick up a script. Auditions are open to anyone from Sun Lakes or SunBird, but if given a part, each person will be expected to join SLCT.
