To even the playing field and encourage more participation, the IronOaks Breakers Pool League began its Inaugural Handicap 8 Ball Pool Tournament in July. The tournament ends August 30. Twenty-two players signed up to play. This represents about 50% of our members. We are encouraged by this turnout because it’s summer.

Several seasoned Breakers players, Rod “Babe” Thompson and Bill Lange, helped to determine a Ranking/Rating for each Breakers member. Ranking/Ratings vary from 4 to 8 depending upon experience level. For example, a player with a Ranking/Rating of 6 competing against a 4 player must “spot” the 4 player two games.

Other tournaments will be scheduled in the fall. The effectiveness and fairness of the Ranking/Rating system will be evaluated later this year. We hope everyone has a good summer playing pool, whenever and wherever you can.
