Sun Lakes 199er’s Duplicate Bridge

Susan Stewart

The 99er/199er Board Representative is Susan Stewart, 480-895-6385. All games are held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Road, unless otherwise announced.

The 0-99er Beginner/Novice Group meets Thursday mornings at 8:30 a.m. with a special review lesson which begins at 8:15 a.m. Director Maria Davis (480-883-2826) will provide great teaching and playing experience for all those interested in learning or coming back to the great game of Bridge. Partners are suggested but not required – Newcomers are welcome and encouraged to attend and to enjoy this excellent opportunity.

Currently, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the room is divided into two groups if there is sufficient attendance: 0-499’ers who are Non-Life Masters and the Open Group consisting of 500 mp’s and above and all Life Masters. However, any player is always welcome to attend the Open Games. On Mondays, there will be regular open stratified games. On Saturdays, there will be 199’er groups if sufficient attendance.

All players must check in no later than 15 minutes before the start of any game in order for directors to seat you properly. However, you may be turned away if you arrive late or if the room has been filled to capacity, so it is advisable to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of games, as attendance is large once the snowbirds return.

Partnership Coordinators and Unit Information: Sun Lakes Unit 351 will always assist you if you need a partner. Plan to come and be part of a great organization.

Monthly Hint: What is the most common complaint? It is players’ not respecting the time limitations. Foremost is not leading before writing the bid. Also, when running overtime, not leaving the table to write the score at the next table. Others are not passing the boards or at least one board; when playing a card, not letting it go; pulling partner’s cards out of the tray to look at them and several others, all of which are violations of ACBL proper Bridge etiquette. Please keep these in mind and remind others.

Note Regarding “Stop Cards”: The Sun Lakes Unit 351 will be removing all Stop Cards from the boxes prior to the beginning of the year.

Top Restricted 99-199’er Game by Sun Lakes Unit members for November: 11/30 Vesta Hayden and Marva Shoates 70.24% game.
