Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club

Karin Hansen

December was an awesome month for many of the bridge players with some fabulous scores being recorded.

On December 20, Cindy Kerr and Cheryl Ramier had a 72.62% game in the Thursday morning 99er group. On December 27, Gerald Heine and Kim Bauer scored 70.83% and on that same day, Kathy and Butch Sorensen scored 70%. What a great accomplishment for these players. Top game in the 499er group in December was on Tuesday, December 11, when the partnership of Vicky Aubrey and Rita Myrann had a 66.29% game. Keep up the great work!

Anyone can learn to play duplicate bridge. Bridge can provide a lifetime of entertainment and challenges. Meeting new friends, learning new strategies, developing confidence and exercising brain cells are just some of the great results from playing a card game. A new series of beginning lessons will be starting on February 1. There is still space available to join. Contact Maria Davis, [email protected].

In addition to lessons, there is a beginning bridge game held each week on Thursday mornings. The session begins at 8:15 a.m. with a short lesson followed by playing of the bridge hands with assistance throughout the game. The game is held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Road. Cost for the players is $6 for those who join the Sun Lakes Bridge Club and $7 for non-members. Annual membership in the club is only $10. Questions about the Thursday morning group can be directed to Anne Newman, [email protected]. Come with a partner if you desire, but if not, one will be found for you. Experienced ACBL players are encouraged and invited to bring a new player to the Thursday morning game to introduce them to the wonderful game of bridge. Both players will pay the usual entry fees, but the existing member will be given a voucher for future use at any open game in Sun Lakes.

The Sun Lakes Duplicate Club also offers sanctioned duplicate games for players with less than 500 masterpoints. These regulated games are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. at Risen Savior Church. Plan to arrive at 1:00 p.m. to purchase your entry and be seated. Partners are required for these games. A partnership coordinator can help introduce you to other players if you are looking for a partner. Contact [email protected] for assistance. New players are always welcome. Cost for all games is $6 for club members and $7 for non-members.

More information about the Bridge Club can be found on the website, www.Unit351.com. Look for the Sun Lakes Bridge Club page. You may also contact Karin Hansen, [email protected] or call/text her at 612-242-8593 for more information about the games offered for Intermediate and Novice players.
