The end of year brings with it plenty of holiday chaos with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas all within weeks of each other. This festive time keeps a photographer busy with opportunities to capture treasured moments and funny antics. Before delving into the whirlwind of activities and busy schedules, the Sun Lakes Camera Club took some time to visit a treasured respite within the Arizona borders – Canyon de Chelly.

One of several canyons, Canyon de Chelly is filled with pristine landscapes and spectacular views that everyone would be blessed to experience. Our fearless trip coordinators, Karen and Janet B., put together four days that 18 members will remember for some time. Land untouched by man, our group of photographers were guided by native Navajo tribe members who provided background about the area as photographers documented their experience. Met by changing weather of clouds, rain, sun and windy conditions, our group came home with unforgettable memories and images to share. One tip, as a member described, “Try not to hold up the convoy by getting stuck in the mud!” Hmmm, let inquiring minds tell us more! The images provided by club members show the varied conditions they weathered to capture this stunning canyon’s unique landscape.

Fundamentals of Digital Photography registration is now taking reservations. Come experience a new way of learning photography that will provide a solid foundation in your picture taking. The club offers an intimate environment to ask questions, an easy pace and a plethora of information for a nominal cost. Class begins on January 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Ceramics Room of the Cottonwood Country Club. Contact Dan Dragoon at [email protected] for details and sign-up; open to members and non-members. Space is limited.

A few events coming up that you may wish to schedule: Luminarias Walk along Diamond Lake, usually the second weekend in December (Oakwood); Bruce Munro: Sonoran Light at Desert Botanical Garden, kickoff reception was November 20; Luminarias at the Desert Botanical Garden from November 27 through December 31 (select nights). The club wishes to thank all its members for their participation in the Arizona Camera Club Council’s Fall Round Up. More details coming next month.
