Celebrate summer with Sun Lakes United Church of Christ

Come join us for “Understanding the Historical and Cultural World of the Bible” sponsored by our Open and Affirming Committee Pastor Vernon Meyer, Ph.D. on Wednesday mornings: July 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Our Christian tradition has understood the bible as the inspired and revealed Word of God. Real people wrote the bible, perhaps inspired by God, but they wrote for their own day out of the social and political world they lived in. The question for us is do we continue to read the bible from a literal point of view with everything needing to be as it is written? Do we need a new way of reading the bible and thus a new way of understanding many of the social, theological and political issues of our day?

Join Pastor Vernon Meyer, Ph.D. of Sun Lakes United Church of Christ for a series that will study the historical and cultural world of the Old Testament. Classes will be held at the Sun Lakes Chapel Center, 9230 Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. Call 480-895-6317 for more information.

Join us for a summer book study with Pastor Vernon Meyer, Ph.D. sponsored by our Member Care Committee; Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong.

Do you wish for a better world to live in? Are you distressed about the growing violence in the world? Do you find that more people practice hate instead of compassion? Join us this summer for a book study focused on Karen Armstrong’s book, Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life. Learn about concrete methods we can practice that will help us cultivate and expand our capacity for compassion.

The book study group will meet on six Sunday mornings on Sunday, July 13, 20, 22 and 27; and on August 3, 10 and 17 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Sun Lakes United Church of Christ Church office, 25635 Country Club Dr., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248
