Chordaires Bring Holiday Joy

The Chordaires sing for veterans at Sun Lakes Country Club. It was one of many community performances at year end.

The Chordaires wrapped up the year by performing at nine private celebrations in the community.

The first two were events to honor Sun Lakes veterans. The first event was on Nov. 11 at Sun Lakes Country Club at the flagpole in front of the clubhouse where veterans and their spouses gathered for a program and lunch. The following day they were part of a breakfast program for veterans at the Oakwood ballroom. They sang the “Armed Forces Medley” and “Ode to America.”

December brought a flurry of holiday parties at two senior living facilities: Clarendale of Chandler and the Village of Ocotillo. The residents and their families enjoyed a full program of holiday favorites, old and new, and sang along with the Chordaires for traditional hymns like “Silent Night” and “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem.” The highlight of the show is a fun rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” featuring the singers in costumes for each day’s gift and loud honking by the Goose a Laying.

The Chordaires also went to small-group care homes Ace Castles and Desert Springs to perform for their parties and were invited to share the sumptuous feasts that followed.

A quartet of the Chordaires, the Notables, sang for the Women’s Connection at Cottonwood. The whole chorus provided after-lunch entertainment for the Sew-N-Sews, a Sun Lakes sewing club, during their party at the Palo Verde dining room.

For the first time this year, the chorus joined the fun of the Diamond Lake Luminaria Walk, a charity event where guests enjoy extravagant light displays, including luminarias encircling the lake, and various entertainers.

Chordaires President Janet Lewis says the chorus gets as much benefit as the audiences: “We love being included in the various community celebrations. It brings us so much joy to share music with others. It’s a way to touch people in a way that transcends speaking. It’s wonderful!”
