So many of the Sun Lakes Rotary Club members are involved in club activities, fundraising and projects, but there always seems to be one who really becomes involved and provides leadership, knowledge and skills to make things happen. This year, it was Chuck Deuth, a member of Sun Lakes Rotary for the past four years. There was unanimous approval when Chuck was named Rotarian of the Year.

Chuck chairs our 3rd Grade Dictionary project which provides over 3,500 dictionaries to every 3rd grader in the Chandler Unified Schools and other schools in the greater Sun Lakes/Chandler community. Over the last 10 years, this has amounted to over 40,000 dictionaries. It is through this effort we hope to help each child become better spellers, readers and speakers. Additionally, he volunteered to chair another large education project called CHOICES where Rotarians work with 9th graders in the Chandler Unified Schools. This effort helps each student better understand why it’s important to make the right choices in selecting the tougher courses that will help them graduate and go on to higher learning and careers of their choice and not become a dropout. Over the years, this project has touched 50,000 students and has received very high ratings from both students and teachers.

Chuck and his wife Kathy have two children and three grandchildren. They live in Oakwood.
