Computer Booters meeting November 6

Allan Levy, Technical Director

Computer Booters will meet on Nov. 6. At 6 p.m., we have cookies and coffee. Also at 6 p.m., our technical director Allan Levy runs a free one-on-one computer clinic. Come and get your computer questions answered. Meetings are from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sun Lakes Country Club’s Navajo Room, 25601 Sun Lakes Blvd. The next meeting is Wed., November 6.

In November, we are thrilled to host the Hamilton High Robotics Team, also known as Team 698 or the Microbots, located in Chandler, Arizona, at Hamilton High School. Since its founding in 2001, Team 698 has attempted to sweep the competition and perform at a high level of skill. Practicing both good sportsmanship and displaying an attitude of excellence are two of Hamilton High’s many goals.

In 2001, the Microbots won the Regionals Award at Southern California Regionals for FRC. Then in 2003, the Microbots won the Judges’ Award at the Arizona Regionals. After several years, in 2014, Hamilton took the Industrial Safety Award and the Entrepreneurship Award at the Arizona Regionals.

Computer Booters has several volunteer positions. Give us a call if interested. Volunteers are what make our organization possible.

October Program: Bill Evans gave a presentation about requirements for a Windows computer. Bill recommends an i3/i5/i7-class computer with 8 gigabytes of memory. Bill also recommends running Windows 10, since Windows 7 support ends this year.

Important information: Windows 7 has three months left of support. What does that mean? There will be no more security updates for 7 in three months. Please continue to install the security updates, as Computer Booters will have classes and discussions on what users should do.

The next version of Office, Office 2019, will not run on Windows 7, and Office 365 will stop working on Windows 7. Other versions, previous versions of Office (2016, 2013, 2010, etc.), will run on Windows 7.
