Sun Lakes – Cottonwood’s Lady Niners golfing duo Lynn Tanner and Jan Lien topped a field of 254 golfers in the Arizona Women’s Golf Association’s annual State Medallion tournament. It was held January 7 at Ocotillo Golf course.

A ceremony January 29 at Cottonwood honored Tanner and Lien with AWGA reps Julie Penn and Kelly Hollister presenting crystal trophies and a traveling plaque to the pair. Penn and Hollister are members of AWGA’s governing board.

Tanner and Lien represented Cottonwood’s Lady Niners by first qualifying at the local level.

In an unusual twist at the AWGA tournament, Pebblebrook’s qualifiers Elyse Wiegand and Donna Harlow tied Cottonwood’s team and rather than a playoff, it was decided to share Championship honors. The traveling plaque will spend six months at each club.

Finalizing plans for Cottonwood’s Lady Niners annual Member-Guest golf tournament March 19 proceeded Sunday, February 10 at a meeting with Co-Chairman Karen Kishpaugh presiding. “This is a landmark event for us as it benefits ‘Gina’s Team,’ a volunteer group assisting women prisoners re-entering society,” she said. “It’s a first for us and we expect record participation and results.” Co-Chair is Leslie Swan.
