Cottonwood Tennis Club Court Report

Susie Welker and Susie Dunn The members of the Cottonwood Tennis Club are grateful for many reasons. The club provides opportunities for tennis playing in organized play, league play, tournament play, social events, and drop-in tennis with friends and neighbors who all share this common sport interest. People from all walks of life have joined our club. There are pilots, musicians, plumbers, housewives, real estate agents, business owners, doctors, teachers, nurses, salesmen, farmers, lawyers and even our own General Manager, who have come together for one purpose, and that is to have fun playing tennis. We have all joined the CTC and are among the 170 volunteers that make our club run efficiently and smoothly. In addition to our CTC board members, we have many volunteer committees that keep our club running like a fine tuned corporation. Among them include a ratings committee, chaired by Hal Davis; tournament directors, Bob and Rae Lewis; the membership chair, Susan Aparicio; the photographer, John Langdon; the website creater, JoAnn Flashmann; women’s leagues coordinators, Pat Davidson and Donna Nelson; the men’s leagues coordinators, Ron Peterson and Lou Galiano; and the men’s and women’s organized coordinators, Bill Triquart and Mary Jane Williams. We even have a volunteer to order and sell our CTC apparel, Wanda Johnson; and others to purchase and plan the serving of our food, Al and Helen Mein; and, of course, publicity people, Susie Dunn and Susie Welker. Many of these committees enlist a group of additional volunteers to accomplish their yearly goals for the club. Wow, let’s give ourselves kudos and a pat on the back for working successfully as a team! Our club doesn’t stop in the summer when the heat is on. The club held its first summer social on June 5 in the cool of the evening. This fun event was organized and executed by Terrie and Bob Heichelbech. Forty men and women of various levels of tennis ability signed up and enjoyed food and refreshments after playing great matches.
