Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. It is hard to believe that the holiday season is just around the corner.

The Gila Butte Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was very busy in the month of November. We helped the Jewish War Veterans with their Poppy Day fundraisers on Nov. 9 and 10. Some of our members attended the Marine Ball at Oakwood Country Club, which was amazing. The opening ceremony with the Honor Guard, the presentations, the food, and a little bit of dancing was an evening we will remember. On Nov. 11 the chapter took part in the Veterans Day Ceremony at Sun Lakes Country Club, recognizing our veterans who served, fought, and died for us and our country by the laying of wreaths and providing hand flags and flag lapel pins. Every day we should remember our veterans and thank them in our hearts.

Nov. 20 was a very special day, as we welcomed our State Regent Sarah Ziker to our general meeting. Our State Regent gave an outstanding presentation about her projects for her term of office. One of her projects is to have an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., for DAR members who served in the Vietnam War era. We all enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving luncheon with all the trimmings.

To end the month, we had our service project to collect the trash along Dobson Road from Riggs Road to Hunt Highway. And don’t forget the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, beginning at 9 a.m. on Dec. 14.

The Gila Butte Chapter NSDAR wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season and all the best for 2025.

Anyone interested in joining DAR should contact Ruth at [email protected]. The chapter can provide assistance with lineage research to prospective members if needed.

The NSDAR is a nonprofit, charitable organization, founded in 1890 and incorporated by an act of the United States Congress in 1896. Membership in the society is open to any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. The DAR functions as a volunteer service organization and is dedicated to patriotism, education, and historic preservation. While DAR supports a strong national defense, it is not a political organization, nor does it lobby. Its membership includes women from Republican, Democratic, and Independent political parties; women from all races and ethnic backgrounds; and women from 18-100+. The society does not subscribe to any particular religion, nor does it discriminate against any members who are of various religious beliefs.
