The Sun Lakes Republican Club will feature as our guest speakers, Congressional District Five Congressman-elect Andy Biggs and AZ State Senate President Steve Yarbrough at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Arizona Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. The public is invited and encouraged to attend!

Endorsed by retiring Congressional District Five Representative Matt Salmon, Andy Biggs will share his vision for “The Road Ahead” as our newly-elected Representative to the U. S. Congress from Congressional District Five. In addition, as the former AZ State Senate President, Biggs is well-qualified to offer us his “State of the State of AZ” election analysis, as he passes the baton to our own Legislative District 17 State Senator Steve Yarbrough. Senator Yarbrough was elected on November 9, 2016, as the new AZ State Senate President and will share his election analysis and top legislative priorities for the new session commencing in January 2017.

Congressman-elect Andy Biggs is an Arizona native and retired attorney. He has earned a bachelor’s degree in Asian studies, a M.A. in political science from ASU, and a J.D. from University of AZ. Andy served in the AZ House of Representatives before being elected to serve in the AZ Senate in November 2010. He has lived in Gilbert with his family for the past 30 years and is married to Cindy, and they have six children and four grandchildren.

Biggs has been designated a Champion of the Taxpayer by Americans for Prosperity, a Friend of Liberty by the Goldwater Institute, a Guardian of Small Business by NFIB, and received the Conservative Excellence Award from the American Conservative Union. He has 100 percent voting records from the Arizona Small Business Assn., Arizona Citizens Defense League, and Center for Arizona Policy. He has a 95 percent lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union and a 93 percent rating from the National Rifle Assn.

Senator Yarbrough has lived in Arizona since 1963. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration (finance) from ASU, a J.D. from the ASU College of Law, and has practiced law in Tempe and Chandler since 1975. Since 1998 he has been the Executive Director of the Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization, a 501(c)(3), that has provided scholarships to thousands of Arizona students to attend the school of their parents’ choice. Sen. Yarbrough has been married to his wife Linda since 1968. They have three adult sons, all married, seven grandsons, and one granddaughter.

First elected to the House in 2002, he was elected to the State Senate in 2010. Sen. Yarbrough was House Speaker Pro Tempore for the 49th Legislature during 2009-2010. He leads a bipartisan group of legislators and citizen group leaders known as the Arizona Values Action Team which supports public policy that is pro-life, pro-school choice and pro-religious liberty.
