The July meeting of the Sun Lakes Democratic Club will be held on Monday, July 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 Sun Lakes Boulevard. The speaker will be Senator Katie Hobbs.
Katie Hobbs was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2010 and to the State Senate in 2012. She is now the Minority Leader in the Senate.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona and a master’s degree from Arizona State, both degrees in social work. She has been a social worker since 1992 in the areas of domestic violence, behavioral health and homelessness. Katie’s conviction that the people she worked with were not being served by government led her to run for office.
Before her election, Katie served as chair of Legislative District 15 Democrats. She is the Executive Director of EMERGE ARIZONA — a political training program for Democratic women; a graduate of the Valley Leadership Institute; and of the Center for Progressive Leadership’s Political Leaders Fellowship program.
Senator Katie Hobbs is a very dynamic speaker and her enthusiasm for Democratic politics is contagious.
At all club meetings, non-perishable food items are collected for the Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Collections take place in the west parking lot from 6:30-7:00 p.m. There is also a collection box at the north entrance of the Sun Lakes Sunset Grill lobby. Thanks to your generosity the total collected during 2014 was 1,880 lbs. of food and $170. Through May of 2015, 980.5 lbs. of food and $104. Thank you, Sun Lakes Democrats!
