Recently, Desert Threads Community Service was asked by member Jody Edwards if we would send some of our charity quilts to Asheville, N.C., for hurricane relief victims. Jody’s niece April (our contact who lives in the Asheville area) received two boxes of quilts from Desert Threads. Once received, April will drop them off to Beloved, a nonprofit organization, who will then distribute them to victims of the hurricane. Member Teresa Roberts happened to be with her Iowa church quilt group and mentioned the donation her Arizona Quilt Guild was doing. The Iowa gals sent a box of quilts to be donated. Jody Edwards also sent a box of quilts from Arizona. A huge thank you to Jody for reaching out with this request, as well as her donation, along with thanks to Teresa (lead) and the Community Service team of Amy, Ann, and Carla. As Teresa said, “This warms my heart knowing our community service efforts make a difference.”
The Dec. 11 meeting is a holiday party. We will play a fun game, members will share their favorite holiday decoration, Arizona Quilt Guild President Eva Kilgore will give an overview of the organization, and there will be a display of the Block of the Month quilts created by members.
Desert Threads is a chapter of the Arizona Quilt Guild. Regular program meetings are on the second Wednesday of every month at the Cottonwood Computer Learning Center. Social time starts at 9 a.m., with the meeting at 9:30 a.m. If you have any questions, please reach out to Vicki Jones, guild information contact, at [email protected].
