Desert Threads Quilt Guild is enjoying casual and fun meetings through the hot summer. In June nearly 20 members who call Sun Lakes their “summer” home met without a planned program, finding this extra time perfect for sharing inspiring projects, new techniques, and fun Show & Tell.
Besides the informal format providing lots of time for socializing and sharing, the Fabric Exchange table was a big hit. It gave an opportunity for each member to clear their stash of no longer needed fabric. And every piece went home with someone new. Several finished Community Service Quilts were also turned in for distribution to our community.
Desert Threads members are also using this summer time to sew one-of-a-kind gifts to be available at the Sun Lakes Women’s Association Bazaar on Nov. 16. There will be quilts in a variety of sizes, of course, plus table runners, fabric bowls, coasters, gift and tote bags, holiday wall hangings, and much, much more. Last year over 100 items were sold.
So, casual summer is a success with Desert Threads members who encourage any quilter or sewist who would like time to get to know others to come to our Aug. 14 meeting from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cottonwood Computer Learning Center.
Desert Threads is a chapter of Arizona Quilt Guild. Regular program meetings begin on Sept. 11 (the second Wednesday of every month) at the Cottonwood Computer Learning Center. Registration is between 9 and 9:30 a.m., and the program begins immediately afterwards.
