Dolly Dressers continue their giving ways

Annette Kitto

Twelve members plus one new member met for our meeting which is held on the first Thursday of the month. Our project was to make capes out of t-shirts to be used for a special super hero event held by Child Help. Last year, we helped make capes using t-shirts, and we decided we could use the front half of the shirt and make another set of capes, turning 200 shirts into 400 capes!

Dolly Dressers has evolved over the years from strictly a sewing group to a charity-based group. Throughout the year, we clean and package dolls, Barbies, books with matching beanies and Easter and Christmas bags. We distribute these throughout the year. Over the past year, we have donated well over 1000 books and beanies, many go to five different Chandler schools for their reading programs. They are also given to Child Help, Helens Hope Chest and Jose’s closet, all involving foster care children. We have donated to Sun Lakes Charities as well as for Stand Down. We also make Easter and Christmas bags for A New Leaf and My Sister’s Place, domestic abuse shelters.

We appreciate all donations of dolls, Barbies and doll accessories. We also use any small toys and gently-used books. For items that we are unable to use, we find another group who can put them to use. If you would like more information or have a donation for us, please contact Rose Zimmer at 480-895-5148 or Viv Sloane at 480-688-7823.
