Damian taught himself to play bridge using an online website. Prior to bridge, he had played poker, cribbage, and 500. When he began playing at Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club, he was mentored by Donna Hofer. This was in 2019. Now, five and a half years later, he has earned his Life Master, the first major hurdle in ACBL bridge.
He earned points by playing at the club, but most of them were earned playing online at BBO (Bridge Base Online), because he was working and was a single dad with children.
Damian earned his last points to achieve Life Master at the Phoenix Fall Sectional this past October, playing in a team game with Dianne Zimmerman, Donna Hofer, and Frank Bost.
Over the past five years, he has learned that you can’t let a bad day at bridge bother you—forget about it! He is still learning what it means to be a good partner.
He will definitely continue to play bridge and has several tournaments coming up.
