Detachment 1296 of the Marine Corps League held their annual golf tournament at the end of April. Proceeds from this event are used for Wounded Warriors and the Marines Helping Marines program. Bear Creek Golf Course was again the location and special thanks go to General Manager Jeff Huseman and his team for all of his assistance in helping to make this event such a success.

The event was sold out, with 136 players participating; five of the foursomes included Wounded Warriors from the United States Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment.

The community was very supportive in their sponsorships as well as their attendance and play. There was a helicopter ball drop, with the purchased ball nearest to the hole winning $500, plus second and third prizes. In addition, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle brought more donations for our Marine heroes.

Unfortunately for the players, no one managed to get a hole-in-one for the Silverado truck or the Harley Davidson motorcycle prizes.

Following play, lunch was provided. In closing, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Cesky spoke to the group on the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment program and how the East Valley Marines support their efforts in Arizona. An award presentation was made to Master Sergeant Marquez, the outgoing Senior NCO for the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior program, for his dedicated service to the U.S.M.C. Wounded Warriors and his continued service as a member of the East Valley Marines Detachment.
