Ed Robson Branch Library hosts great programs this June

The Ed Robson Branch Library is a happening place in the month of June! Please mark your calendar to join us. On the day of the program, please come by the Library Customer Service Desk for a free ticket, limit two per person. Please park in the church parking lot next to the library.

On your mark, get set – Zumba! On Thursday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m.

Let’s kick-off our Maricopa County Reads program with an informational workshop on Zumba for seniors, also known as Zumba Gold-Toning. Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program that enhances mobility, strengthens muscles and bones, and it’s the perfect stress reliever. Mary Tyree, a local certified and licensed instructor will talk about its benefits, demonstrate some moves and answer questions.

Family Roots – Thursday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m.

Ever wonder where you get your smile from? Join us for a beginner’s look at how to use a few of the Library’s genealogical databases, including Ancestry Library, Gale Genealogy Connect and Heritage Quest.

The Gila River Japanese Internment Camp – Tuesday, June 21 at 11:00 a.m.

Join the Chandler Museum for an insightful presentation on the Gila River Japanese Internment Camp, which was located just south of Chandler and in use during World War II. Hear stories and see photographs that document the lives of those who were incarcerated at Gila River. Internees included the mother of the infamous “Tokyo Rose” and the actor Noriyuki “Pat” Morita of Happy Days fame, among thousands of others. Learn where the internees came from, how they got there, the activities that occupied them at camp and where they went once released.

Safety Awareness for Seniors – Monday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m.

Training Officer Roy Stanifer from the Sun Lakes Sheriff’s Posse presents timely information on topics of vital importance to seniors. Included are personal safety awareness, recognizing internet fraud, and common phone scams.

It’s a Mystery to Me: Story Time for Grownups – Tuesday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m.

Do you love whodunits? Join us for a grownup story time, featuring a mystery short story. Feel free to bring a lunch or snack and enjoy being read to!
