Energy, Functional Yoga Classes and Special Classes for January 2020

Paullene Caraher

Energy and Functional Yoga classes are held at the SunBird Golf Resort, Navajo Room, upper level.

January classes will start on Jan. 2, 2020

Morning: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 7:40 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.

Afternoon: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 4 p.m. to 5:10 p.m.

Energy Yoga includes tapping and slapping the body to increase movement of blood and energy through the body. This slapping or tapping is an ancient Martial Arts method of getting energy, QI, flowing through the body. We do this at the beginning of most classes. It is a good practice for you to do at home to wake up your body and spirit.

Functional Yoga means each pose is done to enhance a specific function of the body: to strengthen a muscle, to build the bones, to activate the myofascial tissue, to activate and restore joint movement, and thereby feel more energetic and move without pain. The feet are the foundation of the skeletal system, and the hips are the stabilizers. Correct posture is necessary to have the bones, muscles, and internal organs function in an optimal manner. The goal is not to be super flexible, but flexible enough to enjoy life with activities you find fun. Some like dancing, playing golf, driving, hiking, swimming, and others like tennis, Tai Chi, yoga, and walking the dog.

Monday afternoon class is a special class to give attention to problems of incontinence and prolapse. It is an open class for all women but geared to those special issues. If you wish to participate weekly, you will be asked to fill out an intake form. The cost is a donation. The ladies coming to this class in November and part of December have already experienced relief from these issues. This is a good deal, so come.

Paullene is getting professional training in prolapse and incontinence from the Whole Woman Company founded by Christine Kent from Albuquerque, NM. www.wholewoman.com

Nidra Yoga is done on the second Tuesday for the morning class. This is a relaxing and meditative practice to relieve stress. Either lie down or relax in a chair. Listen to Paullene’s voice as your body relaxes and your mind is guided into a restful state of consciousness and awareness. This gives the cells a chance to recuperate while you are quieting the mind.

Remember: New participants are welcome. It’s easy to follow along feeling the camaraderie of shared yoga energy. Bring a donation and a mat; some mats are available in the room.
