Fun Lakers Club News

Bob and Vickie Bybee

Everyone had a great time at the first annual Woodstock event! It started with the Lip-Sync Contest in which we had an amazing group of people competing. The hippie vibe was everywhere, with lots of dancing to the magnificent music of the era by the Hippie Gold Tribute Band. Plan on attending this event next year!

Upcoming events for the Fun Lakers Club are the Sun Lakes Dance Party on March 19 at the Oakwood ballroom. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with dance lesson with Eddie Gilbertson starting at 6:30 p.m. and open dance with music by Thaddeus Rose from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 14, will be the Golf Cart Rally event. It is open to members and non-members and is guaranteed to challenge your power of deduction with visual clues along the route and coupled with fun games of skill and a few of chance. It will start at 1:30 p.m. from the Risen Savior Lutheran Church at 23914 S. Alma School Road. The route will wind through Oakwood with four stops for games, drawing of poker cards, and a shake of dice. If you do not have a golf cart, we have made arrangements for you to rent one with Copa Golf Carts on Riggs Road for $45 (regular value $120). Pick-up is the afternoon of March 13, and return Monday, March 16. Cart reservations must be made by March 6, 2020.

The Fun Lakers will also be hosting a Masquerade Ball on April 17, 2020, at the Oakwood ballroom. It will be an elegant, dress-up event with masks required and a prize for the best one.

We have other events for you, like Get Your Game On, Mexican Train which meets every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Cottonwood Game Room. Euchre is another great event which meets the first and third Tuesday every month at rotating host/hostess homes. Joe and Gloria Tucker are the organizers and can be reached at 812-584-2542 to reserve a spot to play. One of the newer options is Bocce Ball and Bean Bag Toss Club playing the first and third Friday of the month at Sun Lakes Phase 1 at Oasis Park. Contact Felix Petrillo at butch449@gmail.com to get on the list or to get more info.

If you are single and want to meet people, do not forget about our new area of the Fun Lakers called the Solo Fun Lakers. The business cards and flyers for this group will say “Flying Solo.” For more info, you can contact Jeanne Brady at solofunlakers@gmail.com. They also meet Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. in Cottonwood in the Ladies Card Room, next door to the Cottonwood Library.
