Fun Lakers Club notice

Belinda Anderson, Vice President/Publicity Chair

Will the fun ever end? Not in this club. We just keep having fun, fun and more fun!

Our February event was fantastic! On Saturday, February 21 the Saguaro Room at Cottonwood was transformed into the Big Easy and Bourbon Street for our New Orleans Jazz Night. It was a night of great New Orleans style food, music and fun. We enjoyed New Orleans delicacies prepared by our own award winning restaurant staff. The live jazz band Notes from Neptune made it a very memorable evening. Thank you to Leo and Linda Heiland for chairing this great event!

So here comes our March event – Mafioso Murders – an offer of a murder mystery you can’t resist by Greg Lutz. This will be an interactive murder mystery dinner theater. We will gather at the Saguaro Room at Cottonwood on Saturday, March 21; cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:15 p.m. You will enjoy a fabulous Italian-style dinner. This is an interactive event in which volunteer members of the audience play certain parts as assigned by the professional actors from Murder Ink Productions. You are invited to wear period costumes and lose yourself in the magic, mystery and excitement of Prohibition-era Chicago. Who knows? You might even meet someone with ties to the Family!

Here’s the setting: It’s June 1932, in the Windy City. Prohibition is in effect and Detective Eliot Ness is hot on the trail of the ruling mobster family known to all as the Calzone Family. Currently the mob runs Chicago’s bootlegging, gambling, fur, jewels and pizza delivery rackets and is headed by Giuseppe Calzone, better known as the Godfather. Unfortunately for Giuseppe, he receives respect in the form of lip service from “family” members who really wish he would pass the torch – or better yet die! In this murder mystery dinner show, guests have been invited (ordered) to celebrate the Godfather’s 75th birthday at his favorite restaurant. They are all ready to give him a bash he will never forget — including his arch rivals, the Scampinis, led by Angel Scampini. It is rumored Angel may use the evening to even the score for all the hits the Scampini mob has taken and to get a bigger part of the action. The stage is set for a showdown in Chi-town. Fasten your zoot suits because you will become a witness to the Mafioso Murders. Go to our website for a registration form at www.funlakers.org.

For the rest of year, here’s the line-up of events:

April – Progressive Dinner; May – Mexican Train; June – Pool Party. Our new year begins on July 1.
