Fun Lakes Club news

The Fun Lakers Club held its annual meeting on January 7. The club has grown by over 100 new members. We would like to thank all of our current and new members for your involvement and participation in FLC. Our new members were also treated to a wine and cheese party on January 11. The party provided new members with the opportunity to learn about the club, our events, and to get acquainted with the board and meet other new members.

On January 21, FLC hosted a Western Night at the “Poolside Saloon.” The evening included dinner, live music, line dancing and two-step lessons. It was a great turnout, and even the most hesitant of dancers were able to step out on the dance floor to do the two-step. A few folks ended up in the “pokey” but were able to post “bond” and return to the festivities.

In February, FLC has two events planned. The first is a day trip to Tubac, Arizona, for the Art Festival. This will take place on February 9. The group will meet at the Cottonwood Bar & Grill for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and will leave for Tubac at 8:30 a.m. We are looking to carpool for the event. Our deadline to register to carpool is February 4. If you wish to travel alone, the deadline is February 9. To register, please check out our website at www.funlakers.org. Members have already received the Tubac registration information by email.

The second event in February will be Mark Cordes, “The Spouse Whisperer.” The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Oakwood ballroom, on February 18. To get tickets for the evening, please go to www.oakwoodtickets.com or stop by the Oakwood Clubhouse for further information.

On March 25, Fun Lakers Club will be hosting one of its signature events; the annual homecoming dance, circa 1964. So please SAVE THE DATE for a night to reminisce about those great (and not so great) high school years. Dressing ‘60s is encouraged, but not required. This will be a potluck dinner with live music, 1964 trivia and prizes. The registration information will be sent out to all members via email blasts. Further information will be posted on the FLC website.

The progressive dinner will take place on April 29. The format will be a bit different from last year. This year, we will be starting the evening with appetizers and dinner at guest homes and then returning to the Oakwood Poolside Cafe for dessert and live music. It’s a great way to meet new friends, both in small and large group settings. More details will be forthcoming.

Fun Lakers Club is all about having fun together. If you haven’t joined or are not sure if it’s the right match for you, 2017 may be the year to give it a try. We look forward to seeing you at any and all of our club events.
