Godfather’s Cup and season 3 winners

The start of the tournament had 17 members (players and former Cup Champion) present in their finest, including many with tuxedos which was the suggested event wear. The prior Cup Champion, Rod “The Babe” Thompson (above in the white hat and bow tie) retired from competition and the new Champion, Bill Lange, had his name on the Godfather’s Cup plaque and was awarded the first place prize money along with an engraved 8-Ball statuette. The runner-up was Sam Gilman, with Larry “Cuestick” Stadler in third place, and Keith “The Rabbi” McDonald taking fourth place in the race to three wins for the matches played in 8-Ball.

April 16-18 the IronOaks Billiards Room was a happening place, as the third annual Godfather’s Cup was held in which all members were eligible to participate, regardless of skill level or winnings in the league events held during the year. A blind draw was held for the double elimination tournament, which this year was an 8-Ball game, as the games alternate between 8 and 9-Ball each year.

Season three winners for the league in the Rack 1 for 8-Ball, held from February 9 to March 16 were 1st Bill Lange; 2nd Sam Gilman; 3rd Keith “The Rabbi” McDonald; Rack 2 for 8-Ball winners were 1st Sonny “The Shine” Williams; 2nd Don “X-Ring” Teusaw; 3rd Larry “Cuestick” Stadler; 9-Ball had one Rack consisting of nine players. The winners were 1st Bill Lange; 2nd Sam Gilman; 3rd Larry “Cuestick” Stadler. All of the winners in season three played in the Godfather’s Cup, and all but two placed in the standings for the Cup. There were over 3,200 games of pool played in the league through the end of season three. Season four is underway with 25 players for the Racks in 8 and 9-Ball, which ended on May 20. The competition is great and the level of play is increasing due to the games played over these past three years that the IronOaks Breakers Pool League has played as an organized league.
