Golden Goalies – Love the scramble

Bea Loozer

Golden Goalies meet weekly at a comfortable Cottonwood meeting room. Each Saturday, we decide where we want to sit, and you know how it is. We tend to sit at the same table in the same seat among the same friends.

So now I have to correct my sentence above. Out of the four Saturdays, one meeting is different, and it’s my favorite meeting of the month. It’s the first Saturday of the month, and on that day, we pick a card to find out which table we sit at that day. It’s our Scramble Saturday.

Scramble Saturday shakes us up. Some people like spreading their wings, while others prefer to sit by people they’re familiar with.

You already know I like to be “forced” to sit in a different place. That allows me to get up close and personal with people like Judy F., who is a dedicated Mah Jongg player; to Joann, who has a twin sister; to Judy M., who tells me she doesn’t have to wear glasses now; to Trudy, who tracks her miles even when she’s away for the summer; to Jeanne B., who is a dedicated Trivia player; and to Mary E., who was new to me before a recent scramble — among others.

I love sitting by Audrey and my other friends, but it has been great to stretch a little so I could meet Gayle, Bunny, Lori D. and Delores too.

Then there’s Judi B. She has a mind of her own. Even on non-scramble Saturdays, she chooses a seat in a new setting — opening herself up to the same opportunity to spend time with people she isn’t as familiar with.

Join us to meet new people and to experience support, motivation, shared wisdom and some good laughs. Weigh-in is Saturday from 7:00 to 7:40 a.m. in Room A-8, near the Cottonwood Library. The meeting starts after weigh-in. Contact Rita at 895-2559 for more information.
