Remember that line that says “showing up is half the battle?” I heard Marilyn and a few others say recently that they come to Golden Goalies meetings because that’s something they do for themselves. They show up at the meeting and while there they learn weight loss tips, weigh in to find out how they did in the previous week, keep track of weight trends and enjoy the company and support of those who share a common challenge.
Keep showing up. It’s good for you.
In February I attended a class at New Adventures in Learning, our local lifelong learning program. That in itself isn’t news. Several of us attend lots of classes that stimulate us in one way or another—from the tickle bone or appetite to an interest in history, health, science, gardening and lots of other topics.
A team from Cottonwood/PV presented this class, called Wellness Awareness. A number of healthful points were made so kudos to Sue and the rest of the panel. Called CWPV Connections, the group leads a walking group that is a free activity and is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:15-10:15 a.m. in the Cottonwood Ballroom. No matter where you live you are welcome to join them. Doesn’t matter whether you are in good shape or perhaps have an issue that makes walking a challenge. I’m told the activity is especially popular as the weather warms up as it all takes place in the Ballroom. Join the group to walk at your own pace and remember that showing up is half the battle. Actually, the half that involves walking sounds like the fun part. Check www.info.cwpvconnections.com.
And Goalies, if you take exercise classes, routinely walk your dog, do water aerobics or Tai Chi – or whatever, keep showing up.
Show up on Saturday mornings for support, motivation, information and friendship. Weigh-in is between 7:00-7:45 a.m. in the Mirror Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. The meeting starts after weigh-in next door in the Friendship Room. Contact Rita at 895-2559 for more information.
