David “The Godfather” Mork
There were eight members of the IronOaks Breakers Pool League selected from the 40 plus members by Willie “The Wizard” Foster, Tournament Chairman of the league, who competed in a recent Home-On-Home 8-Ball Pool Match against eight players selected by Conrad Lienes from the Mission Royale Pool Club, based in the Casa Grande area. This was our fifth time playing the Mission Royale club. The traveling trophy has returned to the league as a result of the score 30 wins for IronOaks to 18 wins for Mission Royale in the round robin match of three games per match! The players for IronOaks were teamed as follows: Team 1: Rod “The Babe” Thompson with Keith “The Rabbi” McDonald; Team 2: Bill Lange with David “The Godfather” Mork; Team 3: Sam Gilman with “Fast Eddie” Allen; Team 4: Larry “Cuestick” Stadler with Don “X-Ring” Teusaw. Bill Lange ran the table twice in the event, pocketing the side’s rack without a miss! A great feat against great competition! The league will have a new plaque on the wall showcasing the results of the difficult task! It’s kind of like having a perfect game in bowling, or any sporting event where you compete against yourself and you complete the task in one turn! Congratulations Bill Lange!
The fourth annual League Championships were played in the Oakwood Pool Room starting October 27 with the final Championship matches completed on Saturday, October 31. A complete schedule of players and start times of all matches in 8-Ball and 9-Ball was available in the pool room and in the activity boxes in the hallway on October 26.
Mark your calendars and come watch your HOA No. 3 members in action at the pool tables! The league members truly enjoy playing pool, as evidenced by the statistics that are kept tracking wins and losses the league members play in league matches and the attendance at the six weekly sessions (two each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). Through the end of the fifth Seasonal Tournament ended in August, the members have played 4,960 league games.
Many league members had an experience where they played pool in their former lives before retiring: in the military, in college, or as some of our members did, they played pool (or should I say they hustled pool) to pay for their college education! Members also seem to find the time to play a weekly round or two of golf, and still play in the three times weekly sessions and the six mini-tournaments.
Information on our league can be provided by contacting David “The Godfather” Mork by e-mail at [email protected]; or Willie “The Wizard” Foster by e-mail at [email protected]. Become a member now and you may be able to play in our fifth annual Tournament in 2016!
