The Inaugural match for the Winner’s Traveling Trophy between two competing pool leagues was played on December 13, 2014, in 8-Ball and the trophy was claimed by your own IronOaks Breakers Pool League (“the League”) by a score of 27 to 21 during the match played on the IronOaks four pool tables. The Mission Royale Billiards team consisted of eight players who live in the Casa Grande development and they traveled to IronOaks to play. The League fielded from our membership of 41 active players, eight players to compete against the Mission Royale team. The members who competed in the November 2014 match were Jim “The Mountie” Boyes, partnered with Jerry “The Hammer” Bojarun; Bill “The Assassin” Lange, partnered with Keith “The Rabbi” McDonald; Jerry “Slick” Vickery, partnered with David “The Godfather” Mork; and Rod “The Babe” Thompson partnered with Larry “Cuestick” Stadler.

Previously, the two teams had met in friendly competition, playing what is called Home on Home match play, where each of the members of the team playing as partners of four teams, play each of the other teams in a round robin setting on four tables. The format previously followed was retained for trophy play: A total of 48 games are scored during the two plus hour match play; the host team rotates around the tables with the guest team partners staying on one table; each of the teams play three games on each table, resulting in a total game count of 48. The winning team is the one who has the most wins! To provide an additional and fun incentive for the members to drive from one pool room to another, the Winner’s Traveling Trophy was prepared. The trophy was engraved with both teams on the plaque and shelf so as to allow the winning team to display the trophy until the next match is played, in their pool room. A return match will be held on January 17 at the Mission Royale pool room and the League will have to give the trophy a ride to Casa Grande; and hopefully, it will be returned to the IronOaks Breakers Pool Room again.

Watching the match play in the pool room was a real treat as there were some really good, well played tight matches. Each of the team’s pool rooms have identical trophy shelves and currently, the Mission Royale shelf is empty, so they know where the trophy is, and we expect another great match in January 2015! Stop by the pool room in February 2015 and check out the shelf on the wall to see if we retained the trophy! The pool room is becoming a happening place!

Come join your HOA No. 3 neighbors and watch or play some great pool! We just welcomed our 41st member in January.
