IronOaks Tennis Club is bidding farewell to Heide Gilbert as Director of Racket Sports. She retired as of June 1. Heide has been with us since 1996, where she started as a private contractor teaching tennis. After eight years, when Jason Morton retired, she then worked for Mr. Robson until our HOA took over in 2010. Her responsibilities have included managing tennis and pickleball, supervising court maintenance, helping new members get involved, teaching the game of tennis, stringing rackets, and organizing socials, intraclub events and tournaments.

The club hosted a big party on the clubhouse patio to send Heide off with gifts and cake. Our retired director will now become an official snowbird, spending summers in Vancouver, BC and returning to Sun Lakes later in the year.

Heide’s Tennis Tip:

When you hit a low ball you must not only get down low to hit the ball but you must also stay low into the follow-through to hit an accurate shot. If you pull up when you are still in contact with the ball, chances are you will hit up and out of the court, or you will mishit the ball completely and not get it over the net. Stay low for the contact and the follow-through so that you hit a solid shot that stays low over the net and is tough for your opponent to return.
