“Israel: A Nation and Its People,” Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Sun Lakes
Mr. Gil Hoffman, executive editor of the Pro-Israel media watchdog from Israel, will speak on: “Peace, Politics and Propaganda: An Insider’s Look at the Fight for Israel on the Military and Media Battlefields.”
Mr. Hoffman served for 24 years as chief political correspondent and analyst for The Jerusalem Post where he is now a regular columnist. The Algemeiner website recently named him one of the top 100 people positively influencing Jewish life, alongside presidents, prime ministers, and Jewish leaders.
This series is co-sponsored by the East Valley JCC and the Friends of Israel and Adult Education Committees at the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation. The purpose is to counter misinformation in the international media regarding Israel, and particularly the Israel-Palestinian long-term conflict.
Rabbi Michael Beyo, CEO of the East Valley JCC, began the series laying the historical foundation for modern events by reviewing the geographical, religious, cultural, and military features of radical Muslims in Israel. He noted that they are supported by outside radicals determined to eliminate the state of Israel, leading to the past 76 years of conflict and intermittent wars.
Mr. Hoffman will focus on the current war and how Israel must fight these radical elements, as well as international media, who, for a variety of reasons, are chronically critical of Israel, which dramatically biases their news reporting.
In a recent article, Mr. Hoffman states, “One of the questions I am asked most often at my lectures in America is, ‘From which American media outlet should I get my news about Israel?’ My answer has always been ‘None of them.’ Since the advent of the Internet, no one in America needs to get news about Israel from the local paper anymore. When it comes to Israel, it’s just as easy to click on Jpost.com as the website of any American media outlet.”
This free event will be held in Sun Lakes. Registration is required at evjcc.org/israelfacts. Specific location will be revealed to registrant in days prior.
