Jewish New Year 5780

September is the exciting time of the year when many things begin anew! It’s the beginning of football season, the return of “snowbirds” to Arizona, the first hint of cooler weather, AND the start of Jewish New Year, 5780!

Resuming on September 13, Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation invites everyone to attend our regular monthly Friday evening service at 7:00 p.m. in the Sun Lakes Chapel House, led by our Rabbi Dr. Irwin Wiener, and our Cantor Ronda Polesky.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 24, when Rabbi Wiener will present the first of a very exciting new lecture series as part of our Adult Education Program! Just in time to help with New Year preparations and to answer any questions that you may have, Rabbi Wiener will talk on “Preparing for the High Holidays.” Open to the public, this lecture will focus on the traditions and rituals associated with the New Year.

The second lecture of the series will be held on Tuesday, October 29, when Rabbi Wiener will discuss “Aging Gracefully,” a topic of concern to all, that will focus on both physical and emotional changes, as well as finding ways to keep positive and active at this time in our lives. All lectures will take place at the Chapel Center from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. These lectures are open to the public! Please contact Gail Dante at 480-802-1832 to RSVP.

High Holidays will be celebrated starting with Rosh Hashanah services on Sunday evening, September 29, and on Monday, September 30. Yom Kippur services will begin with the beautiful Kol Nidre service on Tuesday evening, October 8, and the Day of Atonement services on Wednesday, October 9. High Holiday tickets are included with membership. Tickets may be purchased by non-members for $125 each.

Join us following the conclusion of Yom Kippur services for a delicious “Break-the-Fast” on Wednesday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Country Club! The cost is $15 per person. For reservations or questions about the “Break-the-Fast,” please contact Marilyn Behr at 895-7750 or [email protected].
